Houston Area Sees Foreclosed Home Prices Drop

Houston found their overall prices for homes dropping when compared to the previous year as well as the amount of homes sold. Houston has been able to muster through the foreclosure crisis and hasn’t been hit too hard by it. However, there are some changes that have been occurring in recent months. For the past 20 consecutive months which is almost two years has seen the amount of homes sold drop.
Home prices fill by almost 6 percent in the Houston area in Texas in comparison to a year ago. The average home sold for a little more than $194,000 when in April of 2008 the average home sold for more than $206,000. There were 4,200 homes sold in Houston in the month of April of this year. This is down by almost 23 percent from the same time last year.
Existing home sales dropped by 22 percent. There were more than 3,500 homes that were sitting on the market for a while and/or foreclosed that sold. The Houston area fell in home prices by 5 percent from the previous year for existing homes. The average existing home price remains the same as last year at nearly $140,000. The home prices and sales are expected to have gone down for May as well.
