Maryland Sees Home Prices Fall
05-29-2009
The state of Maryland has suffered a large decrease in home prices. With increasing foreclosures the prices fell by more than 10 percent in comparison to the first three months of the previous year. The state not only suffered the largest drop in home pricing that they have ever experienced, but it was also the largest drop that the country has seen this past month.
There were little more than 5 million out of 45 million homeowners in the country that fell behind on their payments or are in foreclosure. This makes up 12 percent. At the end of last year there were 11.93 percent of homeowners that fell behind on their payments. Not too much has changed. The percentage of people still facing foreclosure is about the same as it was a couple months ago. With various programs put into play it may have helped a large number of homeowners but there are still many that are losing their homes since they lost their jobs.
New home sales were up 10 percent back in February of this year. Then it dropped severely by 13 percent in March. However, by April home sales started to increase again and went back up again by 3 percent. Prices will continue to fluctuate as long as there are foreclosures. Neighborhoods with more foreclosures will have lower home prices than those areas that have only a few if any.
