Counties in New York Suffer Through High Numbers in Foreclosure Notices
Three counties in New York have seen double digits in foreclosure notices in April compared to the year before. Last summer there were less foreclosure notices happening since there was a 90 day moratorium placed on subprime loans. Same occurred during the winter months for the same reason.
In Westchester County, New York, foreclosure filings increased by 40 percent in March 2008 from the year before in 2007. There was a severe drop by December and foreclosure notices climbed once again by February and have continued going up since. Rockland County didn’t drop nearly as much as Westchester in foreclosure filings. Rockland County has remained rather steadily high from March of 2008 through March of 2009. Only during the winter months was there any kind of drop in foreclosure notices due to a moratorium for 90 days.
Putnam County experienced a severe drop in foreclosure filings from September to December. Then the foreclosure notices went up in January and continued to go up again in March and April. Despite New York staying out of the foreclosure crisis for the most part, these three counties have managed to suffer the most foreclosure filings in the past year.
