Hope Now Helped Many Homeowners Avoid Foreclosure
Hope Now continues to work on having lenders and borrowers come together and come to an agreement about the mortgage loan. Hope Now gathers advisors together along with representatives from lending companies to talk with borrowers to figure out what they can do to make it possible for the homeowner to stay in their home and avoid foreclosure.
Hope Now has helped more than 130,000 mortgages get modified in the past 6 months. This is 20,000 more than September. There have been repayment plans set up so that the homeowners can figure out a way to pay back all of the money owed. They will still be responsible for repaying the large amount of fees that may have accumulated but it is still better than ending up in foreclosure. Modifications have also occurred and have allowed many homeowners to receive a lower interest rate or a lower amount on their mortgage loan. For loan amounts to go down it would have to be based on how much the home is valued at for the time. This would allow the homeowner to get refinanced through another lender as well.
March saw more than 290,000 homeowners go into foreclosure, but not all lost their homes. Through modifications and repayment plans many homeowners were able to work something out with their lenders which left foreclosures to actually drop by nearly 40 percent in March.
