North Carolina County Faces Increasing Numbers of Foreclosures

One of the largest non-profit organizations helping homeowners facing foreclosure is Hope Now. They had a gathering of 18 representatives of the largest mortgage companies to help borrowers work out a new plan to pay their mortgages. They may receive a modification or they could figure out a way to become current on their payments. Hope Now decided to put together a meeting in North Carolina.

In Charlotte, NC they are experiencing some of their highest numbers of unemployment that they have had to deal with. In February they had an 11.7 percent unemployment rate and it went down a little in March with 11.4 percent. In March of last year the unemployment rate was 5.2 percent. This number has quadrupled in the past four months in comparison to last year. Due to so many homeowners becoming unemployed they are unable to pay their mortgages and face foreclosure.

There were more than 2,000 foreclosures in the past month in a county in North Carolina. This are extremely high numbers for the state and having Hope Now come out and gather lenders and borrowers together should greatly help get many modifications to mortgages. There are a number of options for homeowners who still have some income coming in such as lowering their interest rate or extending the term of their loan.

HUD certified housing advisors came out to help homeowners who didn’t make enough income or any to figure out how they can readjust their credit, develop a new budget, and to reduce their debt.
