Increase of Foreclosures in Cook County Stops Court Actions
In Chicago, Illinois there has been an increase of foreclosures that there has been a delay in foreclosure actions. In Cook County Circuit Court they delayed many foreclosure actions due to a back log of cases. April 1, 2009 it was decided by the courts to delay foreclosure actions that were made until July or August.
Those that received default notices and lenders who appear in court ot file foreclosures are asked to delay it for another three to four months before continuing. With more than 13,100 foreclosures were filed in the first quarter of the year in Illinois. A large portion of these homeowners never contacted their lender after receiving the notices. There were more than 80 percent who ignored it.
At the end of February there were more than 46,800 foreclosure cases that were sitting in the courts waiting for action. In Cook County there were more than 43,800 foreclosures filed. It is estimated that there the numbers will increase drastically by the end of the year with more than 53,100 foreclosure filings. Many experts feel that these delays will benefit many homeowners as they continue to struggle to catch up with their mortgage payments. Maybe during this period of delay they will be able to work out a deal with their lenders.
