Foreclosures Increase in March
The country has seen a rise of foreclosures in the past month largely due to the hold on moratoriums being lifted. Foreclosures increased by 24 percent in the first quarter. Many moratoriums continued due to waiting on President Barack Obama’s plan to stop foreclosures. After February, the moratoriums were lifted which is believed to have led the foreclosures to go up in March.
One out of 719 households in a county in Seattle, Washington had foreclosures. King County saw more than 1,100 foreclosures in March. Other counties in Washington such as Pierce and Snohomish Counties also experienced an increase in foreclosures. In Pierce County there were one out of 319 homes that foreclosed and in Snohomish County there were one out of 500 homes that foreclosed. Pierce County had more than 980 foreclosures in March while Snohomish County had more than 550 foreclosures.
Counties in Seattle saw an increase in foreclosures in March by 25 percent in comparison to the month before. Looking at the numbers from the year before and during the same time period, foreclosures increased by 100 percent. It is no surprise to see these numbers go up and it is anticipated to go up again next month.
