School in Florida Forecloses, Losing Students and Property

With all of the home and business foreclosures along with renters losing their homes from landlords foreclosing on their properties, students in a school have now become a victim of foreclosure. Charter Institute School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida has had to close its doors for good. They were kicked out over the weekend, but it came to no surprise to the school’s administrator, Joseph Valburn.

Students were asked to leave the school and to remove all of their belongings while movers came in and removed everything out of the school. Student records, desks, computers, file cabinets, among other things were removed and packed into school buses and in trucks. Some people thought that the items were being thrown away and started to come pick it up. These people had to be stopped before they drove away with what would be stolen items.

Locks were placed on gates in order to prevent students and workers from coming in. An employee of Q Mortgage and Investments came out to put the locks on the doors and gates in order to secure the property. The borrower said that they did try to pay up to date on the mortgage but the lender wouldn’t accept it. The lender claimed that the borrower was more than a year behind on payments and had no other choice but to foreclose on the property. The school administrator secured storage for all of the school’s belongings and will be removing the stuff over the next few days. As far as the students attending the charter school will be able to continue their education at a partner school in Ft. Lauderdale or any other school in the city. Student records will be released upon request.
