Foreclosures and Evictions in Arapahoe County Colorado
In Arapahoe County in Colorado there were protestors that requested that evictions stop and allow homeowners to stay in their homes. The non-profit organization ACORN who stands behind homeowners rights approached the sheriff in Arapahoe County to try to get him stop recent evictions. They feel if the homes are left vacant it will hurt the communities even more than they already are. More vacant homes will mean more of a drop in value and less chances of homes being resold.
In the first two months in 2008 there were more than 520 evictions in Arapahoe County. This year in January and February there were a little more than 410 evictions. The amount of evictions has actually dropped by 22 percent. The sheriff feels that he is just doing his job and following the law. Therefore, he denied the request of ACORN and has continued to evict homeowners that foreclosed.
ACORN thought that it would be best that the sheriff stop the practice of foreclosure until the federal government would handle the foreclosure crisis. Foreclosures and evicting families from their homes have become such a problem that ACORN had hoped they could do something in stopping more families from being evicted. However, they were not successful this time around.
