Maryland Plans to Put More Money Towards Foreclosure Properties
Maryland county governments are funding various programs to help homeowners facing foreclosure. The state is addressing the foreclosure crisis. Maryland state government will put up more than $4 million to rebuild neighborhoods that have been hit hard by foreclosures. Loans will also go to AHC Inc. who will be buying and reselling foreclosed properties throughout the state.
In Montgomery County there will be $400,000 given to rebuild properties that were lost by homeowners. Another $375,000 will go to Housing Initiative Partnership for rebuilding neighborhoods in Prince George County.
Loudoun County will receive more than $2 million to buy and resell foreclosed properties. They will need repairs and rehabilitating before they can be resold. In January HUD had awarded federal funds of nearly $3 million to Fairfax County to encourage more first-time home buyers along with funds going towards non- profit organizations assisting struggling homeowners.
Prince William County in Maryland saw a drop of 30 percent in home prices since last year. Fairfax County had more than 11,000 foreclosures last year and Prince William County and Prince George County saw nearly 10,000 foreclosures. With increasing numbers of foreclosures the state has decided to fund preventing higher numbers of foreclosures.
