Florida Homeowners Face Foreclosure Despite Seeking Help

The attorney general in Florida is suing several mortgage companies that claim they are helping homeowners from losing their homes. Many homeowners that fear losing their homes to foreclosure seek help from various companies that offer their services for a price. It is against the law for any mortgage company to offer help to those trying to avoid foreclosure for an upfront fee. Without any work being done first there is no reason to ask for money. The company is only calling the lender to ask for the borrower to modify their loan.

Lincoln financial had many protestors outside their business doors demanding their money back. They paid upfront and received nothing in return. Some paid as much as $1500 for the company to turn around and do nothing. Much of what these companies promise is something the borrower can do themselves anyway. Donald Gillette is another person who managed to scam homeowners out of their money. It is suspected that he had at least 500 homeowners that seeked his help. The attorney general has cases against both the company and Gillette.

In order to report a scam from a company or individual, call 866-No-Scam. It is vital to report these cases so that the state government can crack down on these companies and individuals that are making it difficult for people to keep their homes.
