Grants Can Help Homeowners Before They Foreclose
09-03-2008

There are many homeowners that seem desperate to get help from foreclosing on their home. Many homeowners need some extra help to make repairs on their home while other homeowners need assistance to pay their property tax. There is help through federal grants. Most of the grants will cater to homeowners that are considered low income families or are elderly; however, there is a grant available for just about everyone.

A grant is money that is given by the government free of charge. There is no tax paid on it at the end of the year either. HUD Public Housing Program provides quality rental housing to those that are not able to afford to live in apartments or renting a house. This is not a program that gives you money but it pays for the monthly rent directly to the complex.

Home Mortgage Insurance for Disaster Victims is a grant system that gives a certain amount for a homeowner that needs to repair their home or buy a new one. Depending on your situation will depend on how much you are given. This grant is only for those that suffered through a natural disaster.

Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher is a grant that benefits very low income families. They are given money to pay for a decent and safe place to live that doesn’t cost much. Other grants are VA Home Loans/Cash Out Refinance and Home Equity Conversion Mortgages. VA Home Loans benefits those that have served in the military or are in active duty along with their spouses. They give them money in order to refinance their home. The Home Equity program benefits seniors who want to receive money on the equity of their home. They are given a monthly check based on the amount of equity they have in their property.

HUD has many programs and some are not grants. One in particular is the HUD Homes for Sale. This is a program where HUD provides assistance for those that qualify for HUD homes. These homes are usually sold as is and will need repairing. A person who is looking to buy a house can go through HUD to see if they qualify in order to get a house for an absolute steal.
